Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of these women that dress their dogs up just for the sake of it. The only times I’ll attempt to dress them up is a) they are attending an event where everyone else is dressed up (like a wedding) or for photo shoots. Generally I don’t think fur boys and girls are that keen on being dressed up to look like bears or super heroes just for the sake of it. Not that I wouldn’t ever do it but it’s just not a day to day thing for us.
I do however think that Puppies need a coat. When they come to us they are usually 8-12 weeks old, they’re scared sometimes wary, and with thin fur can generally get colder than the furries with thicker more luxurious coats, so it’s only right that you provide them with a little extra layer to be able to run about out in the garden with. I also find that if they are a little anxious for any reason, a nice warm jumper hugging them can settle them down as they feel more secure, so I’ve been on a spending spree this week for little Pea as being 8 weeks his fur is still very thin. Being February it’s bitterly cold in our garden so a few jumpers were first in my basket for him.
Previously I’ve bought Pucci coats for them and although they were good quality, they didn’t tend to stretch very much and with a growing puppy you need a little bit of give rather than buying a bigger size and waiting for them to grow into it. So hunting around Amazon I originally bought him a Stinky G Easy To Wear Jumper (which just has holes rather than sleeves for his legs) to see the quality as being so cheap I wasn’t sure what it would be like.
I need not have worried as it was beautiful. Really lovely and thick, soft and super easy to pop over Pea’s head and legs. The finish is a little rough (the ends of the wool aren’t tucked in) but for £3 it’s fabulous value for money. This one doesn’t have back leg supports which I actually cut off of the coats when I get them because they nearly always hang down, get caught in things or get peed on by accident with little boy furries.
So after receiving the initial dog coat, I felt a lot more confident at the quality so I ordered 3 more. Pea now has a beautiful Aqua and Green Polka Dot Jumper with sleeves, a pretty Cotton Candy Blue and Purple Polo Shirt (for Summer walks while he’s little) and an Ancol Muddy Paws Red Cable Knit Jumper.
Again the quality of the Stinky G jumpers is superb. They’re not that expensive, wash beautifully and look lovely on Pea. As soon as I put his new one on this morning he cuddled up to his toys and fell straight asleep.
