Daddy Bo is a Peckalier, and about 6 years ago he got a skin tag on his back leg. He would lick it for hours upon hours, yet when we took him to the vet they said that it wouldn’t cause any harm to leave it and removing it would just be cosmetic so wasn’t really needed.
Over the last 6 years, this small skin tag has changed into a huge ugly lump about 2 inches wide and even now the vet says that even though it’s a cancerous lump, it’s still just a cosmetic issue for him and not affecting his health in any way. Today however I think has scared me enough to want to have the lump removed (even if it is just for cosmetic reasons) as while he was having his dinner this evening, it bled. It didn’t just bleed a little bit, it poured out of the lump just as if someone had turned on a tap. Now the thing with Daddy Bo is you cannot hold him or he will bite. He’s always been a little moody when anyones holds him so seeing this blood pouring out of the lump, looked like there had been a murder in our kitchen. He wouldn’t stand still long enough for Hudad to scoop him up and cover the lump with a towel so whilst chasing him round the kitchen, the blood was everywhere.
Eventually he got a towel wrapped around him, and got on the phone to the vet (they were just about to close so we were lucky) and got him down there to be looked at. I was in a panic because there was so much blood I thought that Daddy Bo was going to bleed to death, but the vet assured us that he’d be ok.
By the time we got there the bleeding had totally stopped, but the vet took a look anyway and said that it looked as if he had an infection in it which is probably why it bled. So the vet has prescribed Noroclav for 5 days to help it. Let’s hope it does clear it up soon, then I want to be able to save up the £400 they have quoted to have the lump removed as I think it affects him daily with his walking and want to make sure he is as comfortable as possible being an elderly dog. Want him to be around for a long time yet!
