Have you ever wondered what the temperament is of what used to be called “mongrels” but which are now affectionately known as crossbreeds?
I originally never knew that Biscuit was a Cockalier, and for 12 years assumed that he was just a small Cocker Spaniel as we were told when we first got him but now living with Pea who is a full blown Cocker Spaniel it brought to light the contrasting differences between the two breeds, some of which are huge.
Co-Op Insurance have launched an amazing little online tool to help you choose the perfect crossbreed in the form of the CrossBreed Tool. Just pick 2 breeds of dog from the drop down menu and see what you find. I chose my 2 favourite breeds to try it out…
Cocker Spaniels are absolutely mental (in the nicest of ways), they are full on energetic to the point that you will be worn out far sooner than they ever will and always seem to have the biggest smile for you on their cheeky faces at any time of day that you catch their eye but if you mix a Cocker Spaniel with a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel you get…
…the Cockalier! The Cockalier is super cuddly too if Biscuit was anything to go by.
They’re intelligent, friendly, fabulous with children, happy go lucky and smaller than a regular Cocker Spaniel. As an owner of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cockalier and now a Cocker Spaniel, I think any of these breeds are perfect across the board. The Crossbreed Tool is pretty spot on in my opinion too so why not give it a go yourself and see which amazing breeds you can uncover for you and yours.
So tell me, what’s your favourite breed of dog, and if you try the tool have you got a crossbreed that you’re interested in giving a forever home to in the future?
